2gether - here we come

Steve Moore2gether has been an idea that has been tumbling around in my head for a few years now. How do get together the diverse communities of people I routinely meet in the course of my professional life; those who are dedicated to making, well to put it simply, the world a better place (policy makers, campaigners, social entrepreneurs, teachers etc); the brilliant creatives I encounter in television and advertising and the pioneering digital technologists, the bloggers, the entrepreneurs and investors; practical visionaries one and all.

But these worlds hardly ever collide and as a consequence critical policy is formulated which takes no account of the affordances of emerging technologies, great creative ideas evaporate into the ether for want of some caring husbandry and new tools and technologies which could have a dramatic societal impact if adopted and cultivated by change makers come and go…

Over the course of the last year or two I have attended and spoken at events all over the world where people have gathered to focus on change and have barely referenced the new tools we possess to connect, collaborate and converse and also attended technology events where, frankly. the real world doesn’t get a look in.Kipling has a great line ‘ who knows England who only England knows’ and it feels to be apt in the context of what is happening in the world today and it is this desire to bring together passionate creatives from a diverse range of fields that makes 2gether such a great prospect.

The plan for the event is that it should be a mix of structured content with great presentations and panels but also that most of the content should be generated by the participants. We will be asking for your ideas and suggestions, for you to frame problems and are gearing up to respond both online and at the festival to ensure that we host the conversations and workshops that you want to have…

We will shortly be announcing details of some of the funds and awards that will be available to help bring some of these ideas to life. Come and join us and join in !

  1. Steve - I like this idea! The random mixing of stars shining in different constellations, but never visible through the same telescope, is very appealing. The challenge is also to how we bring it to earth and make it all relevant to everyday life. We need also to be better at involving those not actually creating in a more participatory way. As my son says..”once the Government gets on You Tube, I’m outta there..!”

  2. It’s a brilliant idea. The symbiosis of social entrepreneurs and the digital storytellers that can bring their ideas to the attention of others is one that is far too under developed at the moment but is slowly and surely getting there…
